Prep football: Veterans boost Buckeye Central’s chances in 2015

Buckeye Central’s last trip to the playoffs was in 2011 when the Bucks finished as the Div. VI state runner-up to Maria Stein Marion Local.

Another playoff appearance could be in the cards for the young men from New Washington given the depth and experience that head coach Jeff Neidermier has at his disposal this season. The Bucks welcome back 17 starters from the 2014 ballclub that finished 5-5 overall.

“We’re senior dominated with lots of experience on offense and defense,” said Neidermier, who is in his third season as coach of Buckeye Central.

Quarterback Grant Loy (6-4, 202, Sr.) is back to direct the spread offense. He passed for 1,522 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2014.

Running back Cody Roberts (5-10, 186, Sr.) rushed for 844 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

Top receiver Scott Heydinger (5-7, 145, Sr.) anchors the wideout corps. He had 540 yards and three touchdowns in 2014.

Heydinger was a first-team All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference selection on offense last season. Roberts was voted to the second-team offense and Loy received honorable mention.

Buckeye Central begins the new season Aug. 28 at Plymouth. The Bucks open N10 play Sept. 4 at Seneca East.
