Crestline drops conference opener to Lucas

CRESTLINE — The Crestline Bulldogs boys basketball team was in action last Friday evening when they welcomed the Lucas Cubs to town to open up their Mid-Buckeye Conference schedule.

Crestline was looking to advance to 3-0 to begin their winter campaign but would come up short against the visiting Cubs by a final tally of 70-61. The ‘Dogs are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play after the defeat.

Max Anatra would lead the Crestline scoring with 14 points on the evening with Ty Clark right behind him with 13 points. Anatra would also record five rebounds and three assists while Clark chimed in with seven boards and one assist.

Zach Gregory and Kaden Ronk would wrap the contest with eight points apiece, Davon Triplett added seven and Gavin Balliett, five. Rounding out the Bulldogs scoring were Logan Ronk with four points and Caleb Hoskins with two.

The ‘Dogs would find themselves trailing after the opening quarter but would bounce back to take a 31-28 lead into the half. Lucas would outscore the home team in the third (19-13) and the fourth quarters (23-17) to secure the conference “W”.

For the visitors, it was two 23-point performances from Brian Sauder and Jeb Grover leading the way with their teammate Logan Niswander chipping in double-digit scoring as well with 13 points.

Other stats for the home team were: Team- 25/55 (45%) total field goals, 21/43 (49%) from two, 4/12 (33%) from three, 7/12 (58%) from the charity stripe, 27 total rebounds (12O, 15D), 13 assists, 3 blocks, 8 steals and 14 turnovers; Kevin Winker- 1 rebound, 4 assists, 1 block, 3 steals; Gregory- 3 rebounds, 1 assist; L. Ronk- 1 steal; K. Ronk- 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal; Balliett- 1 steal; Triplett- 4 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal and Hoskins- 2 rebounds.

Lucas’ team stats were: 22/47 (47%) total field goals; 13/28 (46%) from the interior, 9/19 (47%) from the perimeter, 17/24 (71%) free throws, 35 total rebounds (13O, 22D), 11 assists, 0 blocks, 2 steals and 15 turnovers.

MBC action continues for the Bulldogs on Friday, December 22 with a trip to Mansfield to meet up with the St. Peter’s Spartans. On Satuday, Crestline will travel to Plymouth to clash with the Big Red in non-conference play.
