Boys golf: Galion 5th at MOAC tourney

Buckeye Valley captured first place at the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Coaches Golf Tournament played Tuesday at Oakhaven Golf Club near Delaware.

The Barons shot 325 to win the Red Division team title. River Valley was four shots behind at 329. Pleasant placed third with a round of 341.

Jonathan Alder finished fourth with a combined score of 364. Galion placed fifth with a round of 373. Marion Harding shot 395 and North Union finished at 484.

“We improved since our last tournament,” said Galion head coach Bryce Lehman. “Not as many mental mistakes this time out. We still need to play smarter golf, but I am pleased by today’s effort.”

Mitch Dyer was the Tigers’ top player at the MOAC event, finishing with a round of 90. Jack McElligott shot 91. Brevin Owens carded a 94. Nick Kruger finished with a score of 98. Kaleb Harsh shot 100 and Colten Skaggs finished with a round of 106.

Next up for the Tigers is the Galion Golf Invitational on Wednesday at the Galion Country Club. Tee time is 9 a.m.

Including Galion, 10 schools will be participating in the Galion Invitational. The rest of the field features Crestline, Bucyrus, Clear Fork, Lexington, Ontario, Mansfield Christian, Mansfield Senior, Madison Comprehensive and Fostoria.

A run of three matches in three days ends Thursday when Galion plays host to Colonel Crawford. Match time is 4 p.m. at the Galion Country Club.
