Northmor XC teams see season end

PICKERINGTON — Both the boys and girls cross country teams from Northmor were on the road at Pickerington North High School on Saturday, Oct. 28 to compete in the OHSAA Division III Regional meet after advancing in last week’s district meet at Watkins Memorial High School.

Unfortunately, the regional meet would be the final stop of the season for the Northmor squads.

On the girls side of the event, the top five teams and the top 20 individual finishers would move on to the OHSAA State Cross Country meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Team placements for the regional event on the girls side were: 1. Mount Gilead; 2. Fredericktown; 3. Zane Trace; 4. Garaway; 5. Centerburg; 6. NORTHMOR; 7. Grandview Heights; 8. Reedsville Eastern; 9. Lancaster Fairfield Christian Academy; 10. Columbus Academy; 11. Leesburg Fairfield; 12. Caldwell; 13. Johnstown Northridge; 14. Winchester Eastern; 15. Westfall and 16. Minford. There were a total of 133 girls running in the event on the day.

Samantha Peters would be the top finisher for the Lady Knights, taking home a 24th place finish in a time of 20:40.03. The final individual qualifier was Ashlyn Shrimplin of Fredericktown, finishing 20th in 20:26.77. Baylee Hack, a sophomore from Mount Gilead, won the event in a time of 19:09.11.

Other placements and times for the Lady Knights from Saturday were: Jessica Duryea, 28th- 20:48.96; Julia Kanagy, 61st- 22:02.90; Olivia Goodson, 64th- 22:11.03; Julianna Ditullio, 65th- 22:12.34; Brooke Bennett, 71st- 22:28.27 and Maddie Jordan, 96th- 23:16.25.

It was a very similar scenario on the boys side, as the top five teams and top 20 individuals would advance.

The top finisher for the Northmor boys squad was Gavin Keen, taking home 24th and missing the cut by just a few spots. Keen ran the event in 17:15.14 and the final qualifier, Levi Pemberton of Caldwell, took 20th in 16:52.92. Liam Kerr, a senior at Grandview Heights, was the champion of the boys race, earning the crown in 16:25.00.

Team placements for the regional even on the boys side were: 1. Leesburg Fairfield; 2. Columbus Academy; 3. Mount Gilead; 4. Grandview Heights; 5. Fredericktown; 6. Garaway; 7. Trimble; 8. Caldwell; 9. NORTHMOR; 10. Elgin; 11. Newark Catholic; 12. Belpre; 13. Minford; 14. Barnesville; 15. Franklin Furnace Green and 16. West Union. There were a total of 129 boys running in the event on the day.

Other placements and times for the Knights were: Austin Amens, 50th- 17:57.83; Ryan Bentley, 58th- 18:10.41; Chase Hoover, 66th- 18:19.49; BJ White, 81st- 18:37.34 and Kaleb Hart, 107th- 19:38.46.
