OREGON — In a rare Saturday contest, the Colonel Crawford Eagles football squad loaded up the buses and headed off to Cardinal Stritch High School to clash with the Cardinals in a non-league gridiron clash.
Crawford would have no issues on this road trip, easily defeating Cardinal Stritch; 49-15. The Eagles improve their overall season record to 3-4 and remain at 1-4 in the Northern-10 Athletic Conference.
It was once again the ground game that did the damage for Crawford. Led by Trevor Shawber’s 108 yards on 12 carries, the Eagles ran the ball a total of 34 times, equating to 380 yards. Six of Crawford’s seven scores came via the running attack, with Shawber earning three himself.
Dylan Knisley ran the ball just two times on Saturday but gained 86 yards and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Hayden Bute had five carries for 66 yards and a score.
Other rushing stats for the Eagles were: Zye Shipman- 2 carries, 47 yards; Colton Rowland- 1 carry, 30 yards; Tristan Cross- 4 carries, 13 yards; Caleb Lohr- 2 carries, 12 yards; Ethan Suter- 4 carries, 11 yards, TD and Brock Ritzhaupt- 1 carry, 10 yards.
Through the air, Colonel Crawford amassed just 84 yards and one score on the night.
Bute was 5/8 for 73 yards and the touchdown strike and Zye Shipman went 2/5 for 11 yards. Kaleb Landin was the primary receiver for the two quarterbacks, catching two passes for 58 yards and the TD.
Other receiving stats for the Eagles were: Owin Seevers- 2 catches, 10 yards; Cameron Smith- 1 catch, 10 yards; Shawber- 1 catch, 5 yards and Jordan Fenner- 1 catch, 1 yard.
The Crawford defense allowed just 33 rushing yards and 77 yards through the air for a total of 110 yards. Both touchdowns came through the air for the Cardinals.
Other N-10 scores for week seven were: Upper Sandusky 20, Bucyrus 14; Carey 45, Buckeye Central 0; Seneca East 24, Mohawk 21 and Lima Central Catholic 28, Wynford 16.
Colonel Crawford will play host to the Lucas Cubs on Friday, October 13.
