HOWARD — The Galion Tigers golf team finished their regular season on Wednesday with a win over the Pleasant Spartans to claim a perfect 14-0 finish. That unbeaten mark would mean little if the Tigers didn’t claim the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference tournament title on Thursday at Apple Valley in Howard.

At Apple Valley, Galion would claim that title to put the exclamation mark at the end of their perfect season. The Tigers would finish the afternoon with a team score of 316 to finish just three strokes ahead of runner-up, the Ontario Warriors (319). After the first nine holes, Galion and Ontario found themselves neck and neck at 158-162.

Other teams scores from Thursday afternoon were: Pleasant Spartans- 330; Buckeye Valley Barons- 341; Clear Fork Colts- 353; North Union Wildcats- 360; River Valley Vikings- 378 and Harding Presidents- 418.

The medalist for the event was Marc Wilkins, Jr. of Ontario who went on to shoot an 18-hole round of 76 for the Warriors.

Matthew McMullen and Jack McElligott would lead the way for Galion on the afternoon. McMullen shot an even par 36 on the front nine of Apple Valley and proceeded to shoot a 42 on the back nine to finish with a 78 overall. McElligott also recorded a 78 for the Tigers, shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back.

Spencer Keller and Mitch Dyer would wrap the champs’ scoring, both turning in scorecards reading 80. Keller fired a 40 on both the front and back nines and Dyer shot a 42 on the front and a 38 on the back nine. Kaleb Harsh was also in action, recording an 86.

Now, onward to the postseason for the Galion golfers. On Thursday, September 28, the Tigers will head up to Huron and Sawmill Creek Golf Club to compete for sectionals honors.

As for the steps to follow, advancement would mean a trip to districts at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay on Thursday, October 5. On October 13 and 14, the Division II State Championships will be held at the NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury.
