MARION — For the second day in a row, the Galion Tigers golf team traveled to the Marion Country Club to compete in a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference match. Wednesday’s opponent was the Pleasant Spartans, a match that was originally scheduled for August 31.

Also for the second day in a row, the Tigers were victorious on the links of the Marion Country Club, defeating Pleasant by a tally of 168-174. With the victory, Galion is now sitting at 12-0 overall and in MOAC play with just two league matches remaining.

“Wow, what a rough night on the links! The weather did not cooperate at all. It was breezy with some drizzle and periods of light rain…then the skies opened up and it rained pretty good for 45 minutes or so at the end of our match,” says Galion coach Bryce Lehman.

Even with the elements against them, Galion was led to victory by medalist Jack McElligott. McElligott fired a 40 for the day with teammate Matthew McMullen right behind him with a 41. Matt Kingseed contributed a 43 and Spencer Keller would round out the Tigers’ scoring with a round of 44. Mitch Dyer and Kaleb Harsh were also in action on the day, shooting a nine-hole round of 48 apiece.

“On a positive note, we did a pretty good job of staying focused,” Lehman continues. “We had a few mental lapses but were able to pull it together and finished with the victory. Every match is important and tonight was key for us since Pleasant only had one loss.”

Just two dual-matches remain for the regular season for Galion. On Monday, September 18, they will travel to Twin Lakes Golf Course in Mansfield to clash with the Ontario Warriors. Another meeting with Pleasant, this time on their home course, awaits the Tigers on Wednesday, September 2o. Thursday the 21st marks the date of the MOAC Tournament to be held at the Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard.
