WORTHINGTON — After a home, season-opening victory last week over Crestview, the Northmor Golden Knights football team hit the road to face off in non-conference action against the Worthington Christian Warriors.

Northmor found themselves surpassing their 2016 win total in just the second week of the season after defeating the Warriors by a final of 40-14. The Knights are now 2-0 in 2017.

The Golden Knights would take a modest 14-7 lead into the half but would come out in the third quarter to explode for 26 points while shutting down the home Warriors. Worthington Christian added their final seven points in the fourth.

It was once again Meechie Johnson leading the way for the black and gold. Meechie was just 3/6 passing for 45 yards but on the ground Meechie amassed 204 yards on 16 carries, good for four touchdowns.

In addition to Johnson’s second straight 200-yard+ rushing game, Northmor’s Conan Becker carried the ball 14 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Ryland Thomas chipped in 17 yards on four carries and Tyler Boggs had 11 yards on three carries.

Through the air, Kyle Kegley had one reception for 31 yards and Conor Becker snagged a catch for 18 yards.

Northmor outgained Worthington Christian on the evening; 429-212. Neither team turned the ball over for the game but combined for 115 yards worth of penalties (Northmor- 6/50 and Worthington Christian- 7/65).

The Knights will look to keep the winning streak alive next Friday night when they take to the road and head to Lucas for a meeting with the Cubs.
