MARION — In a match originally schedule for Tuesday, August 15, the Galion Lady Tigers tennis team headed to Marion on Monday afternoon for a make-up match against Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference foe, the Pleasant Lady Spartans.

Entering the match, both teams were sitting undefeated at 4-0 and at the end of it all, it was Galion that improved to 5-0 by defeating the home team; 5-0. The Tigers are also unscathed in league play at 4-0.

At first singles, Kayley Gimbel had no problems were her opponent and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Gimbel is 4-1 on the season. Katherine Talbott did the same for Galion at second singles (6-0, 6-0) to increase her season-opening winning streak to five matches. Jalyn Oswald’s match at third singles took a bit longer but Oswald is now 5-0 in 2017 after defeating her Spartans’ opponent; 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles action, the first doubles team of Kiersten Gifford and Danielle Schneider breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win for the visiting Tigers. Katie Baughn and Elli Chandler found themselves in a bit of a marathon match on Monday but would prevail and secure the sweep for Galion; 6-7, 6-2 and 10-6.

The Lady Tigers will be back at it again on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Madison Lady Rams in non-conference action. MOAC play picks back up on Thursday with a trip to Ontario to square-off against the hosting Lady Warriors.
