Galion Tennis survives Prexies’ push

MARION — The Galion Lady Tigers tennis team traveled to Marion Harding High School on Tuesday, August 22 to compete in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference against the Prexies.

When all was said and done, the Galion squad was able to remain undefeated as they were victorious over their rivals; 3-2. The Lady Tigers are now 3-0 overall on the season and 2-0 in MOAC play.

Galion’s second singles representative, Katherine Talbott improved to 3-0 on the year by defeating her Harding opponent in straight sets; 6-0, 6-0. Jalyn Oswald also remains undefeated (3-0) after her straight set victory; 6-0, 6-0.

The Tigers’ third and deciding point came from the sophomore tandem of Katie Baughn and Elli Chandler at second doubles. Baughn and Chandler played out their match to the tune of a 6-3, 6-2 victory to earn the win for the visiting Lady Tigers.

At first singles, Kayley Gimbel lost her first match of the 2017 season; 3-6, 2-6. The first doubles duo of Danielle Schneider and Kiersten Gifford dropped their match with the Prexies; 5-7, 1-6.

On Thursday, the Galion squad will welcome MOAC newcomers, the Clear Fork Lady Colts to Heise Park for league competition. After a short break, the Lady Tigers will be back at home on Tuesday, August 29 when they will play host to the Madison Lady Rams in a non-league match-up.
