Ohio’s Sam Hornish Jr. took the checkered flag at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday, winning the Nascar Xfinity Mid-Ohio Challenge.

Hornish, who started from the pole, led the majority of the race’s 75 laps and survived a wreck-filled ending to claim first place. It was his fifth career Xfinity win. Daniel Hemric finished in second place, while Matt Tifft ran third. Overall, there were nine cautions in the race, including one on the 69th lap after a 10-car accident.

Elliott Sadler, who finished sixth in the race, still holds a commanding lead in the points race with 763, 81 in front of William Byron. Justin Allgaier is third with 621.

Also during the weekend were a number of support races in the Trans Am and F4 series. In the TA, TA3 and TA4 race held Saturday afternoon, Ernie Francis Jr. finished first overall and also won the TA class. Martin Ragginger was second and Vincent Allegretta took third, both overall and in the TA class. Mark Boden was eighth overall and the top TA3 rider and Brian Kleeman finished 14th overall and was the first-place TA4 driver.

The TA2 race was held Saturday morning, with Tony Buffomante winning. Gar Robinson took second in the event, while Shane Lewis was third.

Despite Friday being rainy enough to cause Nascar to postpone their Xfinity practice sessions, both scheduled F4 races took place, with a third being run on Saturday.

The first race on Friday was won by Brendon Leitch, while Jordan Sherratt was second and Raphael Forcier ran third. In the second race, the checkered flag went to Skylar Robinson. Kyle Kirkwood ran second, while Leitch placed third. Saturday’s race saw Kirkwood place first, while Leitch was second and Justin Sirgany took third place.
