Crawford relay team earns a district title

BUCYRUS — The track teams from Colonel Crawford and Crestline High Schools began their postseason marches Thursday at Bucyrus High School.

After four events scored on the boys side, Crawford sits in sixth place in the district with 14 points. The Lady Eagles have scored 21.5 points after three events and lead the field.

Brad Bauer, Braxton James, Nick Studer and Chad Johnson captured the first district championship for Crawford, winning the 4×800-meter relay and advancing to the regional meet at Tiffin Columbian High School next week with a time of 8:32.72. Other points scored on the day for the Eagles came in the pole vault and the shot put. Alex Mutchler snagged sixth place in the pole vault and Jaret Tinkey finished eighth in the shot put.

In addition to the placers for Crawford, they will be highly represented in the district finals on Saturday May 20.

The 4×200 team of Colton Rowland, Jacob Rahm, Dylan David and Harley Shaum will be competing for a chance to regionals on Saturday. Rowland, Shaum and David were joined by Owen Kocher to qualify for the finals in the 4×100. Rahm would also advance to Saturday’s action in the 300-meter hurdles. Also qualifying in the 1,600-meter run for the Eagles were Studer and Chad Johnson.

Crestline qualified Max Anatra in the 110-hurdles and Garrisen Almanson in the 100-meter dash. Davon Triplett finished fifth in the boys long jump.

The Lady Eagles qualified their 4×800 relay team for regionals with the team of Courtney Britt, Emily Kemper, Kari Teglovic and Anna Reffey. This squad will travel to Lancaster Fairfield Union High School for their regional meet after snagging fourth place with a time of 10:23.43. Joining the 4×8 team will be Sam Mutchler and Jilliane Gregg. Mutchler took the runner-up spot in the high jump at 5 foot, 2 inches. Gregg finished third in the discus with a heave of 104 feet, 7 inches. Drew Krassow finished in sixth in the high jump on the day as well.

Claire Ehmann and Kirsten Vehrs will be running in the 100-meter hurdles in the finals on Saturday. Reegan Goyer will be joined by Crestline’s Alex Miller in the 100-meter dash and Britt and Teglovic will be in the 800 alongside the Lady Bulldogs Caitlin Harley. The 4×100 team of Pierce Krassow, Vehrs, Mutchler and Goyer will also be looking to continue their postseason run on Saturday.

Saturday’s finals begin at 11 am at Bucyrus High School.
