Crestline Lady ‘Dogs continue tourney run

CRESTLINE — The Crestline Lady Bulldogs softball team hosted the Seneca East Lady Tigers on Friday with a Division IV Shelby District sectional championship on the line.

The contest, originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon, favored the home team as Crestline won the championship by defeating the visiting Tigers, 5-1.

Ace Sarah Toy was the winning pitcher for the contest, pitching six innings and allowing just five hits and the one run while walking three hitters and striking out four. Toy also had a double at the plate and drove in one of the five Crestline runs.

Dennesa Baker and Madison Huber also knocked extra-base hits for the ‘Dogs against the Tigers. Baker belted a triple and recorded an RBI and Huber had a double, two runs batted in and scored once. Samantha Wilhite finished the game with a single and an RBI. Courtney Swanger and Michaela Jeffrey each had a single with a run scored while Lydia Tadda and Desiree Naveja delivered singles as well. Rounding out the Crestline offensive attack was Lauryn Tadda, scoring two runs on the day.

On Tuesday May 16, the Crestline squad will meet up with a familiar opponent in district semi-final action. After defeating New London by a final of 9-2 to win their sectional championship, the No. 1 seeded Lucas Lady Cubs will be next for the Lady ‘Dogs. These two Mid-Buckeye Conference rivals will meet up at 4 pm at Shelby High School vying a district final matchup with the winner of the Monroeville-Mohawk game.
