NORTH ROBINSON — The No. 5 seeded Colonel Crawford Eagles welcomed the No. 12 seeded Lucas Cubs to their home field on Tuesday to compete in sectional semi-final action in the Division IV Galion district bracket.

Crawford advanced to the sectional final matchup in dramatic fashion, defeating the visiting Cubs 4-3 on a walk-off single by Noah Thoman. The single, Thoman’s only hit for the ballgame scored Gavin Feichtner. The Eagles will now faceoff against the No. 3 seeded Plymouth Vikings on their field on Thursday May 11 at 5 pm. The winner of that sectional final will play the winner of the No. 2 St.Paul and No. 8 Buckeye Central contest in Galion on Wednesday May 17 at 4 pm.

Feichtner and Thoman hooked up again as the two pitchers for the Eagles on the day. Feitchner started the game, going the first 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while walking four and fanning six Cubs’ hitters. Feichtner had a single at the plate and recorded an RBI in addition to scoring the winning run. Thoman earned the win, coming on for the final 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit and recording a strikeout.

Kaden Schell was also active in the batter’s box. Schell had a multi-hit game with a single and a double while stealing two bases and scoring twice. Schell lead the Northern-10 Athletic Conference in stolen bases on the season. Dylan Balliett notched a single and a run scored for the Eagles and Blake Treisch had Crawford’s other hit, a single. Jake Johnson earned an RBI and swiped a base to finish up the offense in the victory.

Lucas scored their three runs on five hits, stranded four baserunners and committed one error. Colonel Crawford had six hits to plate their four runs, stranded nine runners and were spotless in the playing field.

The Eagles will hope to continue their postseason run but also still have a league game remaining. On Friday May 12, Crawford will be on the road to take on the Upper Sandusky Rams.
