GALION — The busy week continued on Wednesday afternoon for the Galion Tigers baseball team.

It all started with a loss on Monday against Shelby, a win on Tuesday against Northmor and then a league win on Wednesday on their home field against the Buckeye Valley Barons to the tune of 6-5.

With the victory, Galion improves their 2017 season record to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division.

Galion scored their six runs on nine hits, committed one error and stranded four on the base path for the contest. Buckeye Valley had five runs on 12 hits, committed two errors and left nine on base.

Mac Spears proved to be the hero for the game, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh for the win. That single was Spears’ only hit for the game.

Garrett Kuns was also busy at the plate as Galion’s only slugger to record a multi-hit game. Kuns recorded a single and a double, scored two runs and drove in a run. Ryan Utz and Aaron Barnhart delivered a single and a run scored each for the home team on the day. Chase Castline and Mitch Dyer also belted a single apiece for the Tigers’ offense.

Will Donahue got the start on the hill for Galion and went 5.1 innings while allowing nine hits and two runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out one. Donahue also had a single at the plate. Ryan Talbott would be the winning pitcher for the Tigers, throwing the remaining 1.2 innings, scattering three hits and allowing three runs (two earned). Talbott helped his cause at the plate and on the bases, recording a single, two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.

The Tigers will travel to Mansfield Senior on Friday for a non-league meeting against the Tygers. On Saturday, Galion will host Centerburg for a doubleheader.
