Visiting Whippets tame Tigers in baseball action

GALION — On the first day of May, the Galion Tigers baseball squad came up short in a 5-3 loss to Shelby in non-league action. Galion is 12-8 overall.

Shelby scored five runs on just seven hits and had no errors, while stranding five on base. Galion had three runs on 10 hits, committed one error and left 12 runners on base for the game.

Garrett Kuns started the game on the -hill for Galion and went five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while walking two batters and striking out six in the defeat. Kuns had a three single day at the plate and drove in a run. Ryan Talbott and Will Donahue worked an inning of relief each, allowing no runs and no hits. Talbott had a single at the dish and Donahue belted a pair of singles and recorded an RBI.

Mac Spears also knocked a pair of singles and scored a run on the day while stealing a base. Devin Baughn notched a single and a run scored and Ryan Utz had a single and an RBI for the Tigers. Chase Castline scored a run on the day as well.

Galion will be back at it on Tuesday for a game that was originally scheduled for Monday May 8. The Tigers will travel to Northmor to clash in a non-league matchup against the Golden Knights due to Northmor’s tournament draw. On Wednesday May 3, Galion will host MOAC Red Division foe, the Buckeye Valley Barons. To wrap up the regular season, the Tigers will travel to Mansfield Senior for a non-league matchup with the Tygers on Friday May 5. On Saturday May 6, Galion is scheduled to host the Centerburg Trojans in a non-conference doubleheader.
