Northmor advances 10 to district wrestling; wins sectional team title

CARDINGTON – Northmor won a sectional championship on Saturday at the Division III meet at Cardington High School.

But more importantly, the Knights crowned three individual sectional champs and will send 10 wrestlers to the Division III district meet at Coshocton this weekend.

Northmor sectional champs were Conan Becker at 138; Conor Becker at 145 pounds and Mason Burger at 182 pounds.

Conan Becker decisioned Billy Luft of Newark Catholic 5-0 in his championship match. Conor Becker pinned Mark Woodard of West Jefferson at 2:26 and Burger earned a 10-5 decision over Utica’s Phillip Barrows.

Finishing second were Aaron Kitts, who defaulted at at 132 pounds to Damir Pereria of West Jefferson; Mathew Ross at 152 pounds, who was pinned by Northridge’s Forest Belli at 1:15; and Nathan Price, who was pinned by West Jefferson’s Jake Burns in 44 seconds at 195 pounds.

Also advancing for Northmor, with third-place finishes, were Manny Heilman at 106 pounds, who pinned Cardington’s Taiylor Hubley in 2:48; Jakob Neer at 120 pounds, who pinned Liberty Union’s Chase Mollencamp at 3:53; Gavin Ramos at 126 pounds, who decisioned, in overtime, Joey Buckland of West Jefferson 5-3; and DJ Christo at 220 pounds, who pinned Hunter Braithwaite, of West Jefferson at 2:59.

Tony Martinez was in fifth place at 160 pounds, as was Ben Singer at 170 pounds. Austin Amens was sixth at 113 pounds.

Northmor scored 206 points to win the team title, followed by West Jefferson with 182.
