Lady Eagles edged by Buckettes

NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford’s girls basketball team hosted the Buckeye Central Buckettes in Northern-10 Athletic Conference action last Friday. In a close game, Buckeye Central would get the best of Crawford and held on for a 56-49 victory.

The Lady Eagles dropped to 11-9 overall with the loss and 8-7 in the N-10 while the Buckettes improved to 17-4 on the season and 12-3 within the conference.

This contest was close throughout. Colonel Crawford took an early 17-15 lead into the second quarter but Buckeye would bounce back to even things up at 27 points apiece at the half. The third quarter proved to be the difference maker in the game as the Buckettes scored 18 points out of the intermission to Crawford’s 12. In the fourth, Crawford would actually hold a lead but Buckeye Central would not go down without a fight and eventually came out on top.

Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Taylor Webster with 16 points. Alexus Burkhart contributed 15 points and Ashley Gwirtz added 14 points in the Crawford effort. Abbie Teglovic and Claire Ehmann had two points apiece for the Eagles.

Buckeye Central also had three girls finish in double figures. Emma Studer led the way for the Buckettes with 14 points while Jenna Karl and Haley Green chipped in 12 points apiece in the victory.

Just two regular season games remain for the Colonel Crawford squad. On Tuesday Feb. 14, they will take to the road to compete with N-10 Conference champs, the Upper Sandusky Lady Rams. The Lady Eagles will also be on the road on Thursday Feb. 16 at Mansfield St.Peter’s in a non-conference matchup.
