Eagles beat New Riegel in low-scoring game

NEW RIEGEL — Colonel Crawford took to the road on Saturday night to meet up in a non-conference battle with the New Riegel Blue Jackets. The Eagles continued to roll by defeating the Jackets in a close one, 44-39.

The Eagles are now 15-4 overall this season and remain 12-2 in the Northern-10 Athletic Conference.

Crawford’s highest scoring quarter for the ballgame was the first quarter. The opening period went to the Eagles, 16-12. In the second quarter, the scoring for both teams remained in the single-digits and Colonel Crawford took a 24-21 lead into the locker room for halftime. In the third, the Eagles would stretch their lead by outscoring the Blue Jackets 13-9 and headed into the final period up 37-30. New Riegel would make a push in the fourth but would not be able to close the gap and Crawford would hang on for their fifteenth victory of the season.

Cameron McCreary was the top scorer for head coach David Sheldon on the night. McCreary finished with 13 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Heath Starkey contributed a dozen points in the win, as well as grabbed seven rebounds and recorded a blocked shot. Brody Martin was the third Eagle in double figures on the evening, scoring 10 points, grabbing a rebound, dishing out two assists and a steal. Jordan Fenner and Hayden Bute had four points apiece and Gavin Feitchner finished with a point.

The Eagles shot 16/33 from the field against New Riegel, including 6/17 from three-point range. Crawford also converted six of nine free throws for the game. As a team, the Eagles squad grabbed a combined 22 total rebounds, had 11 assists two blocks, a steal and committed just six turnovers.

Three games remain in the regular season for Colonel Crawford. On Friday Feb. 17, the Eagles will host the Buckeye Central Bucks in a N-10 contest. The next night, they will welcome the Ontario Warriors to Mac Morrison Gymnasium. The final game of the season will be a test for Crawford as they head to Upper Sandusky to face the undefeated Rams.
