PLAIN CITY — Galion dropped a road game Saturday to Jonathan Alder 61-38. Galion is 3-15 overall, 1-9 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division. Jonathan Alder improves to 13-6 and 6-4.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-5 first-period lead and led 33-17 at halftime. The game got no closer

The Tigers were just 12 of 44 shooting. Galion grabbed 26 total rebounds, including 12 on the offensive end. Rounding out the stats for Galion were five team assists, five steals, two blocks and just nine turnovers.

“Our stats were good as far as turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds. However, the defensive effort was not there and our shot selection was poor,” said Galion coach Matt Valentine. “The kids need to learn to not take breaks on defense and play together as a team,” Valentine concludes.

Leading the way against the Pioneers was Chase Cooke with 12 points and seven rebounds. Gage Lackey, Isaiah Alsip and Tristan Baldy all chipped in five points apiece in the contest. Colton Powell and Zhamir Anderson both scored three points and Colten Skaggs contributed three points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. Jack McElligott finished up the Galion scoring, adding two points on the night.

Andrew Koenig scored 17 points for Alder while Cam Androw tacked on 11 for the Pioneers.

Galion will be back at home for a MOAC Red contest with the Pleasant Spartans on Friday Feb. 10.
