Lady Eagles pick up another conference win

GALION — It may have taken the Northmor Lady Golden Knights 36 minutes to get it done Thursday, but they pulled off the overtime win against Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division foe Elgin Comets, 44-35.

With the victory, Northmor improves to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the MOAC Blue while Elgin falls to 4-2 overall and 2-2.

The Knights were without their leading scorer Karolee Patterson and were undersized against the Lady Comets, but they came out and played with a huge amount of intensity.

Elgin would take the first quarter by a score of 10-9 and would outscore Northmor 9-5 in the second period to head into halftime with a slim, 19-14 lead.

But the played inspired basketball in the second half.

Full court pressure was applied by both teams and only Elgin seemed to struggle with it. Northmor rallied to lead 28-26 at the end of the fourth quarter, and it was 33-33 at the end of the game after some late, clutch shooting by both squads.

Northmor senior Lindsey Wiseman put the Knights up by three late, but Elgin tied it at the buzzer with a three-pointer.

The overtime belonged to Northmor

Christianna Boggs led all scorers on the nigh with 15 points, including two three-pointers. She had three rebounds and three steals. Maddie Swihart added 13 pointsand had four rebounds. Wiseman scored eight, Brooke Bennet seven and Becca Duckworth one point.

Colonel Crawford 43, Wynford 31

NORTH ROBINSON — The Colonel Crawford Lady Eagles are 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Northern-10 Athletic Conference after defeating the visiting Wynford Lady Royals on Tuesday, 43-31. Wynford drops to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.

The game was close throughout the first half as Crawford edged Wynford in the first quarter by one point, 12-11. Both teams only managed to score eight in the second period, making the score 20-19 at the half. Essentially, the third quarter decided the outcome of the game. The Eagles used a 15-4 third to propel them to victory as both teams scored eight in the fourth.

Alexus Burkhart and Ashley Gwirtz were again the leading scorers for head coach Kyle Fenner and the Lady Eagles. Burkhart finished with 13 points for the contest on two-two point field goals and three-three point field goals. Gwirtz also finished up the night with 13 points on five-two point baskets and a lone three pointer. Taylor Webster also chipped in eight points in the victory on three buckets from the inside and 2/2 from the free throw line.

Lucas 43, Crestline 20

CRESTLINE — The Crestline Lady Bulldogs have now dropped their first six games of the 2016-2017 season after falling to the Lucas Lady Cubs on Thursday, 43-20. Crestline is now 0-3 in the Mid-Buckeye Conference on the year while Lucas improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the MBC.

The Lady Bulldogs went down early and couldn’t recover. After the end of one quarter of play, Crestline found themselves already in the hole by 10; 12-2. Not much changed by the halftime intermission as Lucas took a very commanding 21-6 into the second half where they would outscore Crestline 22-14 for the 43-20 victory.

Lauryn Tadda lead Crestline’s scoring with eight points on the night. Dennesa Baker added five, Sarah Toy chipped in three and Kennedy Moore and Alandra Tesso had two points apiece.

Jessie Grover led Lucas with 16 points.

Boys Basketball

Mount Gilead 54, Crestline 50

CRESTLINE — The Mount Gilead Indians knocked off Crestline Tuesday, 54-50.

The loss puts the Bulldogs at 0-4. Mount Gilead is 2-2.

Ty Clark lead the way for the Bulldogs with 13 points, nine rebounds, an assist and a steal. Kevin Winkler added 10 points, an assist and three steals.

Cresltine’s 19 turnovers haunted them.

Wrestling

GALION — On Dec. 14, the Northmor Golden Knights were the host of a quad-meet with Galion, Bucyrus and River Valley. Northmor would wrestle against just the Redmen and the Vikings on the night and came away with their third and fourth victories of the early season.

Northmor defeated Bucyrus 77-4

Picking up wins for the Golden Knights were: 106-Manny Heilman, 113-Gavin Ramos, 120-Jake Neer, 126-Austin Amens, 132-Aaron Kitts, 138-Conan Becker, 145-Conor Becker, 160-Tony Martinez, 170-Kyle Price, 182-Mason Burger, 195-Nathan Price, 220-DJ Christo and 285-Tyson Moore.

Northmor beat River Valley 45-22

Winning against the Vikings were: 106-Heilman, 113-Ramos, 120-Neer, 126-Amens, 132-Kitts, 138-Conan Becker, 145-Conor Becker, 160-Martinez and 195-Nathan Price.

On Dec. 6, the Knights too on Marion Harding and Upper Sandusky.

Northmor beat Harding 66-10

Winners in the matchup with the Presidents were: 106-Manny Heilman, 120-Jake Neer, 126-Wyatt Collier, 138-Conan Becker, 145-Conor Becker, 152-Tony Martinez, 160-Matthew Ross, 170-Kyle Price, 182-Mason Burger, 195-Nathan Price and 220-DJ Christo.

Northmor beat Upper Sandusky 39-29

Golden Knights winning against the Rams were: 106-Heilman, 120-Neer, 126-Collier, 132-Aaron Kitts, 138-Conan Becker, 145-Conor Becker, 152-Martinez, 160-Ross and 182-Burger.

Northmor will compete Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Delaware Duals and Wednesday Dec. 21 when they travel to Ashland for a dual with the Crestview Cougars.
