Galion swimmers split dual with Pleasant

GALION — The Galion Tigers played host to the Pleasant Spartans for a dual swim meet at the Galion YMCA on Thursday. The Tigers would come up victorious on the boys side, winning convincingly, 81-12. Galion’s girls team lost 53-38.

Galion took first in most every event in the boys portion of the meet. Things began with the dominate 200-yard medley relay team of Caleb Strack, Sam Rigdon, Clay Karnes and Eli Skaggs taking first place with a time of 1:49.18. Strack grabbed an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing the race in 1:00.03. Rigdon snagged two wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.18) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.97). Karnes earned first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.33. Skaggs contributed two individual victories towards the Galion win, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.63) and 100-yard freestyle events (50.10).

The 2oo yard freestyle relay squad of Rigdon, Landon Rose, Luke Eisnaugle and Skaggs would also win for the Tigers, finishing up the race in a time of 1:37.19. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Karnes, Lucas Conner, Rose and Strack finished with a time of 3:46.79 to secure another Galion victory. Eisnaugle won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:10.99 and Alec Dicus won the 500-yard freestyle race in 5:26.96.

Allison DeNero was the only individual winner for the Galion Tigers’ girls team. DeNero won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.65. The team of Bri Wallis, Sari Conner, Elise Barnhart and DeNero took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 1:52.85.

Galion will be back in the pool on Tuesday Dec.13 against the Lexington Minutemen at the Friendly House pool in Mansfield.
