NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford”s girls basketball program will kick off its season this year on the road against Northmor on Nov. 26. They will load the buses and hit the court under the familiar leadership of head coach Kyle Fenner. Fenner is entering her 13th season as head coach and will be joined by John Spreng, entering his 10th season. Kelsee Rehm will coach the junior varsity (second season) and Kailey Reynolds is in her first year as freshmen coach.

Crawford looks to improve on their 2015-2016 output of 9-15 overall and 5-11 in Northern-10 Athletic Conference. This was just a minor setback from their 11-11 overall and 9-9 league marks from a year prior. Those marks placed them in the bottom third of a conference dominated by the Carey Blue Devils (16-0) and the Upper Sandusky Rams (14-2).

From last year’s team, Fenner lost all-conference players Jada Klingenberger (second team) and Lexi Hoepf (honorable mention). On the plus side, six returning seniors will anchor the Eaglesm led by Alexus Burkhart. Burkhart was first team all N-10 last year as well as first team all-district VI while averaging 17. points and 3.1 steals per game. Ashley Gwirtz, Abbi Teglovic, Abbie Bradshaw, Taylor Webster and Claire Ehmann round out the returning seniors. Caitlin Koschnick and Lydia Strouse are the returning juniors for the Crawford squad.

Coach Fenner hopes that senior leadership will push the Eagles to success. The varsity experience will be a big plus, especially from Burkhart and Gwirtz.

“We will look to improve each practice as the year goes on,” Fenner said. “Upper Sandusky, Carey and Buckeye Central will be very strong this year in our league. We want to work hard each day and be playing our best basketball in February,” she said.
