Galion soccer awards doled out at banquet

GALION — The first Galion High School soccer awards banquet was last week at Galion Middle School.

Individual awards were handed out to the Tigers plays from both the boys and girls team for their efforts in the inaugural season here in Galion. Below are the student athletes and the hardware they won this year.

For the boys team, Lucas Conner took home the “G” award for Offensive Player of the Year. Stephen Thompson took home the Defensive Player of the Year honors after his work as the goalkeeper this season. The Most Improved Player Award went to Nic Oehler, Skyler Bishop achieved the Hustle Award and Matt Sparks took home the trophy for Most Valuable Teammate.

Winners on the girls side were as follows: Natalie Rodriguez was named the girls’ team Player of the Year, Allison DeNero won the Defensive Player of the Year award, Airyona Nickels received the award for Best Teammate, the Ironman Award went to Kate Wildenthaler and Bri Wallis was a two-award winner, winning the Most Improved Award and the Academic Award.
