Boys soccer team earns first win for Galion program

CALEDONIA — The Galion Tigers boys soccer team now owns a piece of history. Galion scored six goals on Thursday en route to the first victory in the history of soccer in Crawford County.

The Tigers defeat Gilead Christian 6-0. Scoring goals for Galion were Ben Alstadt, Skyler Bishop, Nic Oehler, Lucas Conner and Matt Sparks. Sparks had two goals, to go along with an assist. Other assists came from Simon Avila and Ethan Zeger.

Galion boys golf team drops league match

DELAWARE — Galion boys golf team dropped a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference dual at Oakhaven Golf Club on Thursday to the Buckeye Valley Barons, 177-188.

Top performer for Galion was Jack McElligott, finishing with a score of 41. Mitch Dyer had a 47. The remaining scoring for the Tigers came from Matt Kingseed with a 49, Brevin Owens with a 51, and Kaleb Harsh and Colten Skaggs at 53.

Tigers fall it tight battle with MOAC tennis leader Jonathon Alder

GALION — On Thursday, the Jonathon Alder Pioneers beat Galion’s tennis team 3-2. It’s the second time this season the Pioneers have knocked off Galion, and they control their own destiny in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference title race.

For Galion, Kayley Gimbel won at first singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Jalyn Oswald won in second sigles, 6-0, 6-0. In a marathon match that lasted nearly three hours Katherine Talbott, in second singles, fell 1-6, 6-4, 5-7. The first doubles tandem of Kiersten Gifford and Marissa Breinich fell 2-6, 6-7 ( 3-7). In second doubles, Danielle Schneider and Ellie Chandler were defeated 2-6, 2-6. The Tigers are now 10-3, 7-2 in the MOAC.

Northmor beats Fredericktown in MOAC volleyball

GALION — Northmor beat Fredericktown Thursday in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division actio 25-17, 25-21 and 25-16. With the win, Northmor is 4-2 in the conference and 9-2 overall.

Top defenders for the Knights Anna Donner, Lindsey Wiseman and Jordyn Zoll. Donner and Wiseman each recorded 17 digs apiece off of the Freddies attack and Zoll contributed an additional nine. Rayanna Loyer also had herself two blocks at the net for the Knights.

Offensively, Northmor had big contributions from the assist tandem of Zoll and Caitlin Thebeault. Zoll was 57/58 ball handling with 18 assists while Thebeault also added 18 assists on 37/38 setting. The primary attack at the net came from Donner, who was 36/38 hitting with 16 kills. Kelsie Fike was a perfect 20/20 with four aces.

Wynford spoils girls golf team’s home finale

GALION — It their final home match of the season, Galion’s girls golf team lost to Wynford, 226-239.

Medalist for Galion was Shae Ness, with a 50. Abby Barre shot 62 and Brooklyn Potter a 63 and Greer Gledhill behind her at 64. Alexis Chaplin and Macy Eicher shot 69 and a 72, respectively.

Tigers lose to MOAC volleyball leaders

PLAIN CITY — The Galion Tigers dropped a league volleyball matchup with Jonathon Alder on Thursday 22-25, 18-25, 20-25. With the defeat, Galion falls to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division play.

The Tigers were 47/55 from the service line with 28 points and five aces. Morgan Gregory was 10/11 serving for six points and one ace while Kasidee Sinclair was 9/10 with five points.

Gregory 5/5 hitting with five kills and had 23 of the 26 assists for the team. Sinclair recorded five kills. The main attacker on the night was Marissa Gwinner, was 24/29 with 11 of the team’s 26 total kills.

Defensively, Galion was led by Callie Wildenthaler with 19 digs and Ashley Flowers with 13. Abouhassan also contributed three of the Tigers’ five blocks at the net for the match.

WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS

Tiger girls drop two in MOAC golf

GALION — The Galion Tigers girls golf team played host to two Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference opponents on Wednesday in a makeup match from earlier this season. Jonathon Alder and North Union came to town as the top two teams in the MOAC Red Division and left just the same.

Jonathon Alder beat Galion 218-244, while North Union won 214-244.

Leading the way for Galion was Shae Ness and Abby Barre with 58. Brooklyn Potter shot her best round of the season on Wednesday, recording a 62. Alexis Chaplin shot 66 and Macy Eicher 72.

Galion boys golf team loses to Clear Fork

BELLVILLE — Both the Galion Tigers boys varsity and junior varsity golfers lost to Clear Fork at Deer Ridge Golf Club on Wednesday. The Tiger varsity lost 175-187, the jayvees 231-236.

Jack McElligott shot 39 Galion, Mitch Dyer shot 44, Matt Kingseed 50, Kaleb Harsh and Colten Skaggs 54 and Brevin Owens 57.

The junior varsity team saw Sam Rigdon shoot 50, Alec Dicus 58, Aaron Barnhart and Gage Lackey had 64 nd Jacob Lear 66.

TUESDAY RESULTS

Galion tennis team best River Valley

GALION — With its 5-0 victory over River Valley on Tuesday, the Tigers move to 9-2 overall.

The first doubles team of Marissa Breinich and Kiersten Gifford won easily 6-0, 6-4. At second doubles, Katie Baughn and Orchid Parsons recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over their Vikings competition. The trio of singles players once again breezed to victories. Jalyn Oswald won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles to improve to 11-3 on the season. At second singles, Katherine Talbott improved to 10-2 this year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. First singles star Kayley Gimbel remains undefeated (11-0) after winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Northmor volleyball teams falls to Highland

SPARTA — The Northmor Golden Knights volleyball team lost to Highland, 25-11, 25-15 25-18 to fall to 8-2.

Jordyn Zoll, Kelsie Fike and Anna Donner lead the way in serving for Northmor, going a combined 27/27 from the service line while recording one ace (Donner). Fike was 21/23 hitting with seven kills and Donner was a 26/26 with eight kills. Zoll 14 assists.

Tiger spikers lose to Findlay

FINDLAY — The Galion Tigers volleyball lost to Findlay, 25-18, 25-20, 26-24

Morgan Gregory and Ashley Flowers were the top servers for the Tigers, going a combined 21/23 serving with Gregory recording the only ace for the Tigers. Gregory was 90/94 ball handling with 33 out of the 34 total assists for Galion. Marissa Gwinner was 26/32 hitting with 16 kills and Gabby Abouhassan went 19/21 on the attack with seven kills. Callie Wildenthaler (12) and Chloe McCleese (11) had the most digs. Gwinner had all five of the blocks for the team.

Mansfield Senior beats Galion in girls soccer

MANSFIELD — Mansfield Senior beat Galion 11-1 in girls soccer action Tuesday Junior Allison DeNero was at goalkeeper for the Tigers and recorded 23 saves. The lone goal of the match for Galion came off of the foot of freshman Paige Reagan, her first on the season and third on the year for the Tigers. Senior Natalie Rodriguez has the other two goals.

Girls golf team goes down in MOAC play

DELAWARE — Galion girls golf team stepped up to the course to compete against Buckeye Valley in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday. Galion shot 230 on Oakhaven Golf Club’s front nine. Abby Barre and Shae Ness each shot a 54. Greer Gledhill shot a 58 and Alexis Chaplin added a 64. Macy Eicher (69) and Brooklyn Potter (71) were also on the course for Galion.
