MARENGO — The first soccer season in Galion High School history has officially.

The Tigers took on Highland on Friday — all of Galion’s matches will be on the road this year. The girls team dropped a 6-1 decision and the boys lost, 5-1.

In the girls game, Natalie Rodriguez will go down in history as the first member of a Galion varsity team to school a soccer goal. Highland dominated the rest of the game in its 6-1 victory.

The boys team struggled as well in its opener, but Galion did manage to get off nine shots on goal. Stephen Thompson scored the first goal for Galion’s boys team. He also teamed with Simon Avila in the goal, with Avila recording seven saves, in a 5-1 loss.

Both teams return to action Tuesday. The girls will take on Mohawk, while the boys are in Bellville to take on Clear Fork.
