NEW WASHINGTON — On Thursday, the Galion girls golf team found itself in unfamiliar territory.

The team took to the Cranberry Hills golf course that morning to take part in the Buckeye Central Invitational. Led by coach Mark Barrier, it was the first time in the school’s program that an entire Galion girls team participated in an invitational tournament.

The girls shot a combined score of 446, landing them in second place, just 9 strokes behind the champions from Norwalk St Paul. The rest of the scoring was: Wynford (449), Buckeye Central (450) and Seneca East (515).

Bucyrus and Danbury also played, but did not field full teams.

Individually, the Tigers remained consistent across the board. The top scorer of the day for the girls was Shae Ness, who shot a 102. The other girls contributing to the finish for the Tigers were Abby Barre (108), Alexis Chaplin (113), Greer Gledhill (123) and Brooklyn Potter (134).

The ladies season continues on Monday against North Union and Jonathon Alder at the Mill Creek Golf Course in Ostrander.

Galion will play their home matches Sycamore Creek golf course, formerly Galion Country Club.
