Northmor recently sent a number of its youth wrestlers to state competitions, boasting multiple place-winners.
According to Jamie Christo, a wrestling coach with the Knight program, in the Novice state meet, Garrett Diesch was the state champion at 65 pounds, while Brady Carr, the son of Northmor head wrestling coach Scott Carr, was runner-up at 55 pounds. To compete in the Novice state meet, a wrestler could not have previously competed in the OAC state meet.
In the OH-way state meet, Cowin Becker competed in the Division Two 58-pound class and was both a state champion and the outstanding wrestler of his division. Gavin Gallion placed fifth in the 100-pound class of Division Three, while Carr also wrestled, going 3-2 and losing in the placement round of Division Two’s 55-pound class.
Three wrestlers also took part in the OAC state meet. Becker finished seventh in the Division Two 58-pound class. Also, Christo’s son, Niko, took eighth in the 90-pound class of Division Four and Luke Remy also finished eighth, competing in the Division One 55-pound class. Coach Christo noted this is only the fifth time that Northmor wrestlers have placed in the OAC state meet.
Remy’s father, Chad, noted that in the OAC meet, which was held in Youngstown, Luke was in a 30-man bracket and had a highlight of pinning one of the top seeds in 56 seconds in his fifth match. He finished his season with a 47-16 record and as the top-ranked 55-pound 5-6 year-old on ohiotournaments.com
