GHS golf team owes its success to many

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many businesses, groups and individuals that made this past high school golf season a huge success.

The 2018 season was another incredible one for the Galion golf team. Through hard work and determination, we won the MOAC regular season championship by going undefeated at 14-0 and we won the MOAC tournament at Valley View, with a school record team score of 294 to claim the undisputed title for the second straight season. We now have a streak of 28 straight wins in place. This group of young men: Jack McElligott, Matthew McMullen Spencer Keller, Matt Kingseed, Kaleb Harsh, Max Longwell and Bronson Dalenberg achieved a season worthy of nothing but praise.

They won the sectional tournament at Sawmill Creek, finished first at the district tournament at Red Hawk Run, and finished the season with a fifth-place finish at the OHSAA state tournament at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus.

This type of season could not have been possible without the help from the flowing: Phil’s Deli, Maury Sheffer, Ty and Caryl Huggins, Bruce and Elizabeth Angell, First Federal Bank of Ohio; Flick Packaging, Fox Plumbing and Heating, Cass Woodworking, Keller Agricultural Solutions, Ohio Electric Control (Bob McMullen), Erin Miller (Images by Erin) The Galion Inquirer (Chad Clinger) The Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum (Zach Holden) and Crosswords Original Designs (the McMullen families).

Thank you also to the Galion High School Athletics Department (Kyle Baughn) and the Galion board of education for their support this past season and for allowing this group of players to be victorious on multiple occasions. I also would like to thank Sycamore Creek Golf Course and the Carter family for the use of their facility along with the personnel working in the pro shop. A special thank you to course superintendent Jimmy Benton and his staff for the condition of the course and their upkeep of the finest course in the MOAC.

Lastly, I would like to thank you to the countless parents, grandparents and family members for supporting the players, coaches and the program as a whole. We always had huge groups of people following our team at every match and tournament, which was greatly appreciated, as were all of the snacks and drinks provided for the matches.

Thank you!
