Knox County Head Start announces “Handling Your Toddler’s Fussing and Fits,” a free parenting training for expectant parents and parents of infants and toddlers, provided with funding support from the United Way of Knox County. The two-hour session will be held on Tuesday, April 12, at 6 p.m. at New Hope Early Education Center, 11700 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon.

Training presenter Renee Sutherland, LISW-S, certified Conscious Discipline instructor and child mental health consultant for KCHS, shares that disciplining a toddler and two-year old can be very challenging. Sweet babies grow to be more independent toddlers and start to exert their independence. Often, a toddler’s strong feelings are expressed through tantrums and power struggles. What is a parent to do? In this two-hour interactive training, parents will learn how to handle the “fussing and the fits” by learning about what typical toddler behavior looks like; ways to avoid engaging in power struggles, and how to set up your toddler and yourself for success as you travel through this developmental stage together.

KCHS staff will provide free child care and dinner for parents and children during the session. Attendees will receive a $10 gift card. This training is made possible with funding from the United Way of Knox County in partnership with Knox County Head Start.
