He’s only in first grade but Gage Ernsberger began driving when he was even younger.

Gage is currently a 6-year-old first grader at Bellville Elementary and often goes by his nickname: Spike. He garnered the name “Spike” over the years after sporting a mohawk since he was 2 weeks old.

He started racing at just 3 years old and has loved it ever since. Over the past three years he has become a skilled driver in the kid kart division and brought home nine trophies last season.

At age 3, Gage began racing on a dirt track in Carrothers, Ohio. There he gained experience driving with the other children.

As a 5-year-old, Gage started his first season racing indoors, on asphalt, at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus, Ohio. He brought home his first feature win.

Recently raced in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a track that is organized by Tony Stewart and Larry Boos. This was a two-day race, and Gage competed in a field of 18 kid karts. He is now considered among the best in the Midwest. That aclaim landed him in an article in the magazine “Rumble in Fort Wayne.”

Gage was invited by Der Dutchman to attend the summer drive-ins, and of course he accepted. He would be happy to meet the public at the drive-in.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring Gage, email Randi Ernsberger at [email protected]. She will contact you, and your decal will be on his kid kart. Sponsors will also receive an autographed picture of him.
