ARBOR DAY SEEKS NEW MEMBERS – Forests across America are a prized natural resource, and anyone can help plant trees in these vital areas by joining the Arbor Day Foundation this month.

Through the Replanting Our National Forests campaign, the Arbor Day Foundation will honor each new member who joins in July by planting 10 trees in forests that have been devastated by wildfires, insects, and disease.

The cost for joining the Arbor Day Foundation is a $10 donation.

America’s national forests face enormous challenges, including unprecedented wildfires that have left a backlog of more than 1 million acres in need of replanting. The Foundation has worked with the United States Forest Service for more than 25 years to plant trees in high-need forests.

Our national forests provide habitat for wildlife, keep the air clean, and help ensure safe drinking water for more than 180 million Americans.

ADULTS CAN STILL REGISTER FOR HORSEBACK RIDING PROGRAM – The University of Findlay and Hancock Park District’s upcoming horseback riding program for beginners, to be held at the University’s western farm from June 29 through July 3, is still accepting reservations for adult learners.

District Director Gary Pruitt said interest in the program has been widespread, with all available openings for youth filling rapidly. Adults must register by 4:30 p.m. Friday. They can do so online at http://tinyurl.com/nla7m56. The cost is $100 per person.

This is the first time that the University and park district have partnered to offer riding lessons. The program will offer 15 hours of instruction during five consecutive days at the James L. Child, Jr. Equestrian Complex, 11178 Township Highway 201 between Findlay and Arlington.

Head instructor will be Mark Smith, an instructor for UF’s western equestrian program. Smith has been a professional horseman for more than 35 years, training and coaching multiple world and national champions and serving as a judge with six national breed organizations.

In addition to riding time, basic horse care will be taught. More details can be found at http://tinyurl.com/nla7m56 and by calling the park district at (419) 425-7275.
