The Bucyrus City School District and Bucyrus Lions Club came together to sponsor the first ever Lions International Peace Poster Contest at the Bucyrus Middle School. Members of the Middle School Art Club participated in the event that featured the “Share Peace” theme.

Students completed their projects for entry in just three short weeks. Members of the Bucyrus Lions Club juried the contest that concluded with a special awards ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 27.

“Students produced some very creative, colorful and engaging peace themed posters,” Middle School art teacher Scott Mental said. “We could not be happier with the outcome of the students’ projects.”

The top three places were selected from the entries, with first place receiving $50 and entry into the District competition. The first place winner was Ashley Davis (6th grade), while Alexis Adams (8th grade) and Autumn Shirkey (6th grade) were named the second and third place winners respectively.

“This contest was possible thanks to the support of Bucyrus Lions Club President Mr. Terry Spiegel, Bucyrus Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke, the families of our Art Club members and the students themselves,” Mental said. “I’m excited to see how Ashley’s poster is judged at the next level of this international competition.”
