GALION — Galion High School has appointed Beth Hildreth as the new Career Coach for the 2021-2022 school year.

Hildreth joins the Tigers family after a successful career in human resources in the healthcare and manufacturing industries. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron and her master’s degree from Ashland University.

“I will be connecting with students in a variety of ways, mostly through specific classrooms,” Hildreth said. I will meet with high school students in English classrooms on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and I will visit Galion Middle School once a month.”

Knowing the options that are available after high school and knowing how their strengths and skills can be applied to a career can provide students with much desired clarity about their future. Some careers require additional education beyond high school and some do not.

“No matter their career choice, if it provides our graduates with satisfaction and makes them feel like they are adding value by doing things they enjoy, we are all much more likely to be ‘successful,’” Hildreth said. “When students find their ‘why’ and what they love, they can thrive and be successful in so many ways!”

Hildreth’s goal is to connect with as many students as possible, so they know that she is a resource GHS is making available to them.

“I plan to get them thinking more about their post-graduation plans,” she said. “Ultimately, we want students to be intentional with some actions, be better informed and better prepared for whatever their post-graduation plan is.”

Hildreth joins the district as part of the Succeed and Prosper through Education: Ashland, Richland Crawford (SPARC) and the Talent Development Group, which recognizes the importance of career readiness and postsecondary education for the students, economy, and overall well-being of North Central Ohio. Both SPARC and the Galion City Schools have worked to increase the number of local students who pursue advanced training, certification and postsecondary degrees with the aim of increasing the level of educational attainment and economic success of the region.

“We are excited to welcome Beth to the Galion team,” Superintendent Jennifer Allerding said. “Her work with our GHS and GMS students will be incredibly important in helping them find their direction after they leave the halls of Galion High School.”
