Photo contest to raise money for cancer patient

Joe Carver of Mansfield said he received the worst news of his life when he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in mid-July.

Thirty days later, he was let go from his job as a nurse.

To help pay for his expenses, his friend James Pennington is holding a pet photo contest. Donations are $5 to post a photo and $1 to vote. The top-ten voted pet photos will be given to three judges who will select the winners. The grand prize is a shopping spree at downtown Mansfield businesses.

Carver also has bradycardia, a condition which slows the heart rate. Which has caused an issue for him because doctors won’t operate on him due to his condition.

“He has had this his whole life.” Pennington said. “He has had doctors refuse to remove the tumor because he may have complications or die.”
