The crisp chill of the early morning air, the leaves changing colors on the trees and pumpkin flavored everything in stores can be said to mark the unofficial start to the fall season.

Along with the time change and end of the growing season, come autumn craft festivals dedicated to celebrating the popular time of year. Making its way to Butler next weekend is the Prairie Peddler Festival, a four-day fall craft, food and entertainment event.

“It’s the 28th year of the Prairie Peddler,” said festival co-director Mandie Willis. “Over the course of the two weekends we get about 25,000 people to come out. This year we have 180 vendors selling all hand crafted items and over 25 food vendors ranging from chicken dinners to pulled pork and of course a variety of fair food.”

In addition to traditional craft and food vending options, Prairie Peddler organizers aim to provide their guests with a host of music and entertainment options.

“We booked a lot of bluegrass and country music,” said. “We have some newer bands this year, some family bands but it’s all good music.”

The community has been an integral part of the festivals success states Willis offering a steady roster of voluteer assistance.

“We love having it (Prarie Peddler) in Butler,” Willis said. “We get a lot of organizations to help out. The Butler Lioness Club always runs their funnel cake stand. It’s a lot of fun.”

The event runs from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Sept. 26-27 and then again the following weekend Oct. 3-4 from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children under 6.
