OHSAA sanctions Galion boys basketball team after self-reported rules violation

COLUMBUS — Recently, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced that the Galion High School boys basketball team violated OHSAA policy when they had an open gym on Sunday, August 5. That date falls before the mandatory No Contact Period against coaches, which was originally set to end on Friday, August 31.

Due to the infraction, the No Contact Period was extended until Sunday, September 16.

The official statement made by the OHSAA went as follows.

“Galion High School’s head varsity boys basketball coach violated Sports Regulation 11, Mandatory No Contact Periods-Coaches, when he held an open gym during the mandatory no contact period. In accordance with the Sports Regulation and Bylaw 11, Penalties, the Executive Director’s Office extended the no contact period for all Galion boys basketball coaches until Sunday, September 16, 2018.”

“The violation was self-reported and the penalty taken,” stated Tigers’ boys basketball head coach Matt Valentine.
