The Buckeye Central Board of Education held their August meeting on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at Buckeye Central Local School.

Correspondence:

Missy McDougal was appointed as the district’s Delegate for the OSBA Capital Conference in November 2015. Beth Diesch was appointed as the Alternate.

Board Committee Reports:

Financial – Mrs. McDougal and Mrs. Ackerman met to review the finances for the past month. It was noted that the income tax revenue was down slightly. The district will continue to monitor this revenue item.

Legislative – No Report. The Ohio legislature is on summer recess at present.

Student Achievement – No report (Summer months)

Policy – Mr. Robinson noted that NEOLA will be forwarding recommended policy updates in September. Once the information is received, it will be reviewed in committee and any revisions brought to the Board for approval.

Financial Report:

Financial reports were read and approved

Bills approved as submitted

Approved the cash rent agreement with Stahl Farms LLC

Superintendent’s Report and Discussions:

The superintendent and board members finalized the mission and goals for the 2015-2016 school year. A draft vision will be presented to the staff and community representatives for input in September.

A leadership committee is being formed to collaborate and study implementation of The Leader in Me initiative within Buckeye Central Schools. The committee will consider the district’s mission and goals in their efforts and provide input regarding the vision.

Mr. Robinson updated the Board members on a variety of opening of school topics such as Open House, student-teacher assignments, scheduling, teacher work day, correspondences, required safety drills, class meetings, etc. He reported that everything was on schedule and that the staff was looking forward to a successful opening with students on Wednesday, August 19. 

The board approved the following Superintendent recommendations:

Building use form for the St. John’s/Nazareth Lutheran Church to use the outdoor learning pavilion, paved drive and walking trails on September 26 with Pastor Tom Pairan in charge

Building use form for the 4/5/6 grades volleyball to use HS and MS gymnasiums during September and October with Stephanie Kantzer in charge

Consortium membership through Tri-County ESC for Title III, English Language Acquisition (for limited English proficient – LEP students)

Diesel fuel contract with Sunrise Cooperative for the period of August 1, 2015 – July 31, 2018

Bus routes for the 2015 – 2016 school year

6th grade COSI/Ohio Statehouse trip for April 28 & 29, 2016

Leave of absence for Cindy Alt, Food Service Worker, from August 18, 2015 – October 31, 2015
