Crestline football earns bizarre win as Ridgedale has to forfeit

MORRAL — The Crestline Bulldogs football team traveled to Ridgedale High School on Friday night for their first of two meetings with the Rockets this season.

Crestline would come away with the win by a score of 35-0 but managed the victory in the strangest way. The Rockets, due to injuries, suspensions and an ejection, had to forfeit the remainder of the game after just 17 minutes of football because they only had 10 eligible players.

With the bizarre win, the ‘Dogs move to 3-2 on the season.

Four of Crestline’s five touchdowns would come in the opening quarter.

Ethan Clum got the scoring started, running in for a 58-yard touchdown on his only carry of the game. Add the extra-point off of the foot of Dillon Foltz and it was 7-0 ‘Dogs. Caleb Moore would then get in on the action, rambling off a 68-yard touchdown run of his own and with another Foltz PAT, Crestline went ahead; 14-0. The third score of the night also came from the running game of Crestline as Dakota Wireman ran the ball into the endzone from 75-yards out. Foltz put through his third PAT and Crestline was up by three scores; 21-0. Wrapping up the first quarter offensive onslaught was Jaxson France. France caught a Ty Clark pass for a 15-yard touchdown and Foltz was good again to make it 28-0 Bulldogs after one.

In the shortened second quarter, Clark put the visitors on the board once more with a two-yard touchdown scramble. Foltz added his fifth PAT to put the game at the eventual final of 35-0 in favor of the ‘Dogs.

For the night, Clark was 5/5 passing for 59 yards and the touchdown strike to France. On the ground, Clark carried the ball three times for 30 yards and a score. Defensively, Clark also intercepted a Rockets’ pass attempt in the shortened contest.

Offensive statistics for Crestline were: Wireman- 6 carries, 109 yards, TD; Moore- 3 carries, 84 yards, TD; Clum- 1 carry, 58 yards, TD; Bailey Woolard- 1 carry, 15 yards and 2 catches, 15 yards; France- 2 catches, 32 yards, TD; Jaden Stewart- 1 catch, 12 yards and Foltz- 5/5 PAT; Team- 355 yards total offense (296 rushing, 59 passing).

The Bulldogs will play their last road game of the 2017 season on Saturday, September 30 at Miller High School.
