Northmor returns experience from last year’s 19-6 volleyball campaign

GALION — Northmor’s volleyball team had a banner season in 2016. Overall, the team finished their fall campaign with a record of 19-6 and were 17-5 within the now disbanded Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division.

So, queue the upcoming season for the Knights. They have a new conference, the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference and most of their roster from last year’s successful sectional championship team returning. Northmor will also still be under familiar leadership in head coach Kara Wright. Wright has 12 seasons under her belt, all as the leader of the Lady Knights.

Cristianna ‘Tiny’ Boggs headlines the group of returning letter winners. Boggs will be going for her fourth letter in the fall of ‘17. Joining her will be five others vying their third varsity letter on the volleyball court. Anna Donner, Jordyn Zoll, Kelsie Fike, Caitlin Thebeault and Hope Miracle will all suit up in the black and gold for a chance at another run like they had a season ago.

Joining the six returning letter winners are Leslie Brubaker, Aly Blunk, Hanna Bentley and Lily Tate, all players that the coach informs me are players to watch and expect an impact from in the upcoming months and fill in for Lindsey Wiseman and Rayanna Loyer, both of whom graduated last spring.

As for what coach Wright has to offer as far as the season ahead of her and her team, she offered up the following in an email. “We are hoping to continue our success as a strong defensive team, build on last year’s record and compete for the K-MAC title. Highland will be strong again and Fredericktown and Cardington are up-and-coming teams.”

Northmor’s season starts Saturday, Aug. 19 in a three-way showdown against the Clear Fork Lady Colts and the Lucas Lady Cubs. A home match with the Fredericktown Lady Freddies will begin the K-MAC season on Thursday, Aug. 24 and the regular season will conclude for the Lady Golden Knights on Oct. 12 at Highland.
