Galion library story time on the road at Cake and Icing

GALION — Galion Public Library took its pre-school Story time on the road Wednesday to close out its summer session in sweet style.

They make a visit to Galion’s Cake and Icing bakery. While 25 little ones were signed up to attend, approximately 35 showed up to hear a couple of stories from Storyteller “Miss Nancy” Foss. And they also had a chance to decorate a cupcake of their own, provided free of charge by Cake and Icing owner Laura Johnson.

With stories for the day chosen to center around sweet treats, well known children’s book “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake” by author Laura Numeroff was a perfect selection.

After Story time was completed, the children and their parents lined up to take turns decorating a vanilla cupcake with sprinkles of their choice to take home for a little snack later.

And while Johnson did this free of charge, she certainly saw a return for her generosity. Most of the parents, including this reporter, were waiting at her counter to purchase some baked goods to take home whether it was more cupcakes, breads, or fresh cinnamon rolls.

While this may have concluded the Summer session of Story time, fall sessions will begin soon at Galion Public Library. The starting date is Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m., and then again Aug. 22 and Aug 23 at 10:30 a,m. Baby Sing and Sign will also begin on Aug.22 at 9:30.

In the meantime, visitors are welcome to stop in a Cake and Icing during regular store hours, Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
