LEXINGTON — Galion beat Willard, 10-0, Wednesday night in a Division III district semifinal softball game in Lexington. The Lady Tigers will take on Colonel Crawford on Friday at 5 p.m. in a district tournament championship game.

The game, although it lasted just 50 minutes, started in a bit of a stalemate, with both teams combining for just four hits through three innings. Galion scored a run in the bottom of the third when Nevaeh Clark doubled in Gabby Kaple. The Tigers put up another run in the fourth when Nicole Thomas belted a triple to score Jaime Ehrman from first.

Starting off the bottom of the fifth was Kate Schieber, who was hit by a pitch and would later score a run on a double by Clark. Clark’s double would also plate Kaple, who singled. Dusty Thomas and Clark touched home after a big, 2-RBI double off the bat of Emily Sedmak. With the score now at 6-0 and Sedmak on second, Nicole Thomas lined a single up the middle to plate Sedmak and put the Tigers up 7-0. After the duo of Nicole and Madelyn Thomas scored to put the Tigers one run away from the 10-run win, Schieber reached on an error by the Willard first baseman and was the eventual winning run, after Kaple doubled her across home plate.

Madelyn Thomas was stellar as the starting pitcher for the Tigers, going the entire five innings in the shutout and allowing just one hit, a single in the top of the fourth. Thomas struck out three and allowed no walks on the day. At the plate, Thomas was part of the eighth-run bottom of the fifth that clinched the win, delivering an RBI double.

For the game, Willard managed no runs on just one hit and committed one error. Galion scored its 10 runs on 14 hits and committed two errors.

Multi-hit game: Kaple, 3-1B and 2B; Dusty Thomas, 2-1B; Clark, 2-2B; Nicole Thomas, 1B and 3B

On Friday at 5 p.m. in Lexington, the Lady Tigers look to avenge last year’s sectional loss to Crawford and bring a district championship back to Galion.
