Mississippi man’s reported drowning in Knox investigated

On Sunday morning, around 12:18 am the body of Jessie Damron, age 60 of Golden, Mississippi was discovered deceased in the Mohican River near the bridge on Brinkhaven Road, officials said.

According to reports, Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies were first called to the area on Saturday night around 11 p.m. Friends of Damron indicated that he was last observed in the area of the canoe access at State Route 514 in Greer, officials said, adding he had been canoeing with them prior to his disappearance. Personnel from the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District were able to recover the body just before 2 a.m.

Damron had been camping in the area with a group of friends from out of state, police said, adding he was not wearing a lifejacket when he was discovered and alcohol may have been a factor. His body was transferred to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
