BELLVILLE — The Clear Fork Lady Colts welcomed the Galion Lady Tigers to Bellville on Tuesday night to meet up in non-league play. Clear Fork headed into the matchup in search of its’ first victory while Galion was hoping to end a three-game losing streak.
Clear Fork earned their first victory on the year to improve to 1-3 after defeating Galion, 52-27. With the loss, Galion now finds itself on a four-game losing skid and falling to 1-4 on the year.
After the opening tip, Clear Fork never looked back. The intensity was there from the first seconds of the game and they took a 17-8 lead into the second quarter. Galion was able to muster just two points in the second period to the Colts’ 12. Coming out of halftime with a 29-10 lead, the Colts remained in full throttle mode while Galion struggled to find their offensive gusto. After three periods, the score was Clear Fork 40 and Galion 16.
The Lady Colts would be lead by a dynamic inside/outside duo in the form of junior Tabitha Hamilton and sophomore Reagan Marshall. Hamilton was the strong inside presence the Colts needed against the undersized Tigers. Hamilton was 6/10 shooting on the evening with 12 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and recorded a blocked shot for head coach Chuck Schmitt’s Colts. Marshall was quick to pull the trigger from three-point land and had pinpoint accuracy throughout the duration of the game, going 4/5 from beyond the arc with 12 points. Senior Darian Gottfried and junior Macy Wade added 10 points apiece to aid in the Clear Fork victory. Gottfried also picked up six rebounds while Wade snagged five boards and racked up three steals.
Lauren Huggins was the top scorer for head coach Nick Vukovich and the Tigers with eight points on 3/6 shooting from the field and added 2/4 from the free throw stripe. Huggins also had three blocks underneath the basket to thwart the Colts’ offensive attack. After the hot shooting night at Buckeye Valley, Dani Schieber had just five in the Galion loss. Schieber couldn’t seem to find the same three point stroke from last Friday, going just 1/6 from outside. Natalie Rodriguez didn’t hit a shot from the field but shot 4/6 from the charity stripe and grabbed six rebounds against the Colts.
