Crestline finishes football season with a convincing win

FOSTORIA — The Crestline Bulldogs were in Fostoria on Saturday night to meet up with the St. Wendelin Mohawks for their final game of the season.

Crestline snapped a four-game losing skid, in convincing manner, by defeating the Mohawks 65-13. With the victory, the Bulldogs finish their season at 4-6, an improvement over last year’s 0-10 record. St. Wendelin finishes their 2016 campaign at 3-7.

Quarterback JR Wolfe was a busy man on the gridiron against the Mohawks. Wolfe was 9/12 through the air for 140 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His main targets for the game were Tyler Sipes, Ty Clark, and Chandler Gaskill. Sipes had three grabs for 73 yards and a touchdown, Clark snagged two catches for 38 yards and an offensive TD. Clark also scored a touchdown on the defensively side of the ball. Gaskill caught two passes for 23 yards.

The ground game for the Bulldogs continued to be their go-to in the final week of the season. In total, Crestline picked up 380 yards on 31 carries and scoring six touchdowns. Leading the rushers on the night was JC Clark, carrying the ball 13 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Wolfe also had an impressive ground attack to go with his passing stats, picking up 112 yards on just eight carries and two touchdowns. Gaskill contributed 52 yards rushing and a score while Caleb Moore needed just one carry for 50 yards to score his touchdown in the win.

Crestline got out of the gate fast, outscoring St. Wendelin 14-0 in the first quarter and went into halftime with a commanding 28-7 lead. A strong start to the second half earned them a 16-0 third quarter which carried them on to the fourth where they outscored the Mohawks 21-6 for the 65-13 win. In total, Crestline picked up 520 yards on offense in 43 plays.
