Northmor gets first victory with win over Elgin, 52-24

MARION — The Golden Knights of Northmor picked up their first victory of the season on Friday, defeating the Elgin Comets 52-24. Northmor finishes the season at 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division. With the loss, Elgin season ends at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the MOAC.

Demetrius Johnson scored two touchdowns and Jordan Wiseman tossed four touchdown passes to lead the Knights.

In the first quarter, Wiseman hooked up with Nathan Hall with a 27-yard TD pass, the 2-point conversion made it 8-0 with 8:42 to go in the first quarter.

The Knights made it 16-0 with 2:19 to go in the period when Johnson scored on a 10-yard run and another 2-point conversion.

After an Elgin two-point conversion following a Mitch Embaugh 23-yard run, the lead was 16-8 with less than a minute to go in the first period.

But the Knights responded, making it 24-8 when Ryland Thomas caught a 53-yard scoring pass from Wiseman, and scored another 2-point conversion.

Just minutes later, Northmor bobbled the snap deep in Elgin territory and the Comets recovered in the endzone. Another 2-point conversion made it 24-16 with 6:14 to go in the half.

Northmor upped its lead to 30-16 on a 62-yard pass from Wiseman to Johnson and took that advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The scoring didn’t slow much in the second half for the Knights.

Northmor upped the lead to 36-16 on a 21-yard pass from Wiseman to Hall with 2:27 to go in the third quarter, and made it 44-16 on a 4-yard Connor Becker run. They increased their advantage to 52-16 on a 62-yard Johnson TD run and the 2-point conversion, with 7:20 to go in the game.

Elgin added a final score with 56 seconds left in the game to account for the 52-24 final.

Johnson ran for 99 yards, on just five carriers. Wiseman completed 10 of 16 passes for 334 yards.

Northmor had a total of 106 rushing yards on 20 attempts on the night and 334 through the air. The Knights defense allowed 329 total yards on the night, 288 rushing and 41 passing. Northmor snagged two interceptions on the night as well.
