New events planned at fair

BUCYRUS – The 158th annual Crawford County Fair kicks off on Sunday and offers fair-goers a few new events this year.

According to Tom Laughbaum, manager and treasurer of the fair board, include KOI Drag Racing on Tuesday.

“They race any type of vehicle. It will be an exciting event,” Laughbaum said previously.

Also, a 5K run will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The Sale of Champions, which has traditionally been held on Friday evening of the fair each year, will now be held on Saturday as part of the Junior Fair Livestock Sale. The Showman of Showman competition that is normally held on Friday morning of the fair will take the time slot of the Sale of Champions on Friday evening.

The Buckeye Mobile Tour, a community engagement initiative presented by The Ohio State University, will be on the fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 22. There will be interactive games and inflatables.

The headliner of this year’s fair, 20-year-old Racheal Lynn Woodward, better known as RaeLynn, will take the stage in the grandstand area at 8:30 p.m. with Steel Creek opening for her at 7:30 p.m.

Raelynn competed on the popular television show, “The Voice,” and has been touring with country sensation Miranda Lambert. She is known for her song, “God Made Girls,” and hails from Baytown, Texas.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the fair board office which is located in the fairgrounds at 610 Whetstone St.

Laughbaum said returning favorites include the annual demolition derby at 6 p.m. Sunday, the Wambold’s Amazing Animals and the stock truck pull on the last night of the fair.
