Galion students recognized for musical and athletic accomplishments

The Galion City School District Board of Education recognized a group of Galion High School students during the regular monthly meeting July 16. These students earned recognition for their athletic and musical accomplishments during the 2014-2015 school year.

The twenty-three high school and middle school students receiving Board of Education commendations during the meeting included: Eleanor Chandler (Excellent, Trumpet Solo); Anna Court (Superior, Trombone Solo); Makenna Mohr (Superior, Alto Saxophone Solo); Ceyanna Mohr (Superior, Clarinet Solo); Stephen Thompson (Superior, Xylophone Solo); Kyler Ratcliff (Superior, Baritone Solo); Jacob Bash (Superior, Snare Drum Solo); Rachel Greene (Superior, Alto Saxophone Solo); Justin Kostelnik (Superior, Alto Saxophone Solo); Allison Bauer (Superior, Tuba Solo); Tyler Harris (Superior, Trumpet Solo); Kendall Moody (Superior, Clarinet Solo); Annie Holley (Superior, Marimba Solo); Alexis Link (Superior, Flute Solo); Maranna White, Kendall Moody, Cindy Straughter (Clarinet Trio, Superior); Jacob Bash, Autumn Barone, Austin Hadamuscin (Superior, Percussion Ensemble); Jacob Bash, Annie Holley, Kearsten Kostelnik, Max Papenhausen, Autumn Barone (Superior, Mallet Ensemble); Alex Barker, Kelly Baker, Tiffany Burchett, Kearsten Kostelnik, Tyler Harris (Excellent, Brass Quintet); Clair Erlsten, Sydney Hunt, Michaela Slone, Alasha Williams (4×100 Team District and Regional Champions and State Runner-ups); Clair Erlsten, M’Lynn Gwinner, Michaela Slone, Alasha Williams (4×200 Team Distict and Regional Champions and 8th Place at State); Marisa Gwinner (District and Regional Champion for High Jump and 3rd Place at State); Marisa Gwinner, Sydeny Hunt (State Qualifier for Long Jump). The Girls Varsity Track and Field team also received commendations for winning the 2015 MOAC Red Division championship, and earning runner-up finishes at both the District and Regional meets.

“These students represent the best of the best in the Galion City School District,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “Recognizing student achievements and accomplishments is one of the highlights of any Board of Education meeting, and I want to congratulate each of these students on a job well done.”
