GALION — Two Galion florists and members of the Galion Rotary club spent part of Wednesday handing out flowers and making smiles in honor of Make Someone Smile Week.

Lisa Dye, owner of The Flower Cart, said she participates in the event every year.

“We partner with Teleflora, who supplies the flower pots while we provide the flowers,” Dye said.

Dye said the owners of Toni’s Flower Shop, Ron and Pat Roston, provided flowers to residents at Magnolia Terrace and Galion Pointe nursing care facilities, while her shop provided flowers to Signature Health Care of Galion and Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation.

“We have been doing this for years. It is so nice to see the smiles on the residents’ faces when we show up with flowers for each of them,” Dye said.

Sandy Shelton is staying at Signature Health Care.

“It is so nice they do this for us. I have family close by, but many of the residents do not have someone to bring them flowers,” she said.

Susan Snyder, quality of life director at Signature, said the residents look forward to Make Someone Smile Week.

“Our residents were so excited for today and talked about it for days. When you get flowers from someone, it does put a smile on your face and they really look forward to it,” Snyder said.

Shelton said for many of the residents, the smile from receiving the flowers lasts longer than one day.

“Some of them, their smiles will last all year,” Shelton said while flashing a smile of her own.
