Health department renews agreement with Community Counseling

On June 14, the Galion Board of Health approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Community Counseling Services, Inc., to continue providing space for mental health counseling services. The Galion City Health Department has provided office space to CCSI since 2014, in order to give Galion area residents more convenient access to counseling.

The MOU was a renewal to the agreement between the agencies, effective July 1 through June 30, 2017. Galion City Health Department provides an office for counseling one day per week, at no cost to CCSI. Full-service, confidential counseling is offered for individuals and groups, including sessions for addiction and Christian-based counseling.

Seventy-three clients have received counseling at the Health Department site during the current contract term, from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016.

“It’s been a tremendous asset for us to give Community Counseling Services a presence in Galion. We have heard nothing but good things and this is a good fit with public health because the Community Health Assessment shows a need for mental health treatment, and sometimes clients need additional health services,” Health Commissioner Trish Factor said.

“We have a great partnership with Galion City Health Department. I think having us in Galion is good for the community and our programs are working because of these partnerships. We appreciate Mayor O’Leary and the Health Department for all of their support,” CCSI Programming and Clinical Services Director Cindy Wallis said.

The partnership formed because many counseling clients living in Galion had trouble attending their appointments at CCSI’s main facility, located at 2458 Stetzer Road in Bucyrus. In addition to Galion City Health Department, the agency conducts home visits and holds office hours at a nurse practitioner’s office in Crestline and in all of the county schools, even during summer break.

“So many families call to thank us for having these satellite locations. There are real barriers to getting help and transportation is one of them,” Wallis added.

To schedule an appointment with Community Counseling at any of these locations, call the agency at 419-562-2000.
